1. The call for ERC Starting Grants 2016 is now open, deadline is 17.11.2015.
ERC Starting Grants are designed to support excellent Principal Investigators at the career stage at which they are starting their own independent research team or programme. Applicant Principal Investigators must demonstrate the ground-breaking nature, ambition and feasibility of their scientific proposal. The Principal Investigator shall have been awarded their first PhD at least 2 and up to 7 years prior to 1 January 2016. 4. Over 30 H2020 calls for proposals currently open in the Participant Portal. How to find if there are any relevant calls for your research?

All H2020 calls can be found in the EU’s Research & Innovation Participant Portal at http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/portal/desktop/en/home.html > Funding opportunities . You can choose there whether to look at open, closed or forthcoming calls or check just those H2020 programmes you are interested in or filter with e.g. call title name. There are also 'stay tuned’ services provided by the Commission available there, i.e. iCalendar detailing H2020 call deadlines (kept up-to-date centrally by the EC) and RSS feeds.

You can also search for relevant calls and topics by using:

* the keyword search at

http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/portal/desktop/en/opportunities/h2020/search/search_topics.html

* the free text search at

http://ec.europa.eu/geninfo/query/action?query_source=RESEARCHPP&language=en&text=

5. Applying for ERC or other H2020 funding? Read first the University's guidance (FAQ, checklists, budget templates etc.) in Flamma

If you are planning to apply Horizon 2020 (incl. ERC) funding, please first familiarize yourself with the University's guidance available in Flamma at https://flamma.helsinki.fi/fi/EUpuiteohjelmat . You will find

there i.a. the following:

* University's Frequently Asked Questions about H2020 proposals
* Checklist for the University's researchers coordinating H2020 proposals
* Checklist for researchers participating in H2020 proposals as partners
* Budgeting templates
* etc.

University's guidance for the H2020 applicants is being continuously updated in Flamma as the European Commission publishes new information.

If you plan to apply, please contact the Research Funding Services early enough, we cannot guarantee service with less than 2 weeks' notice before the application deadline! Further information about our services is available in Flamma at https://flamma.helsinki.fi/fi/tutkimusrahoitus/rahoituksenasiantuntija .

EUTI/Tekes has compiled basic instructions ('Horisontti 2020 Hakijan ABC') for applicants at http://www.tekes.eu/osallistujan-opas/hakeminen/ (in Finnish only).
