The task of elementary particle physics is to study particle physics and cosmology both theoretically and experimentally in an internationally high level.

The experimental research in particle physics is based on the participation in the research of large international research centers. Research groups of division are involved in experiments at CERN, in Geneva, and at Fermilab near Chicago.

A group of observational cosmologists participates also in the Planck Surveyor Mission-experiments of European space agency ESA.

Research collaboration with the theory program and programs in particle physics of Helsinki Institute of Physics is active.
