BAECC: biogenic aerosol- effects on clouds and climate

During “Biogenic Aerosols - Effects on Clouds and Climate (BAECC)”, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Program deployed the 2nd ARM Mobile Facility (AMF2) to Hyytiälä, Finland, for an 8-month intensive measurement campaign from February to September 2014.

The AMF2 instrumentation included a comprehensive suite ground based active remote sensing such as Lidars and radars to understand aerosol and cloud vertical profiles and microphysical properties. Connecting these observations with data from Station for Measuring Ecosystem – Atmosphere Relations II (SMEAR II) we aim to understand the impact of biogenic aerosol formation on clouds and climate. The BAECC was supported by US DOE, European Commission and Academy of Finland.
